Imphal, August 19 2010: The All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj/Nupi Samaj has alleged that there are certain errors in Social Science text book prescribed by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) for class X .

Speaking to media persons at BOAT today, Nupi Samaj general secretary Th Ramani said that the chapter on roles of Meira Paibis in democracy as contained in unit 1 was misleading.

In the same chapter titled "Functioning of democracy (Ganatantragi thabak matou), it is written that Meira Paibi was set up on May 28, 1980 .

"Following an untoward incident that happened at Patsoi, Imphal West in April 1980, rally was taken out exclusively by women on May 28 same year, heralding the birth of Meira Paibi movement.

Before, Meira Paibis were mainly engaged in anti-alcoholism campaigns", Ramani quoted from the chapter.

Saying that this portion is not only misleading but also has potential to project Meira Paibi in the wrong light, the Nupi Samaj general secretary urged upon all concerned to examine the portion and make necessary corrections.

She demanded that the misleading portion should be deleted until it is corrected.
