Imphal, October 11 2009:
Taking strong exception to the suspension of development work of the road connecting Haoreibi Karam and Samurou in Imphal West district before completion, the local people of Haoreibi has sought attention of the Works Minister so that the road development work is completed at the earliest.
Addressing a press meet at Haoreibi this afternoon with representatives of Haoreibi Women's Welfare Association, Social Development Organisation Haoreibi Mayai Leikai and councillor of Samurou Nagar Panchayat Ward No 2, Councillor of Samurou Nagar Panchayat Ward No 1 Sarungbamcha Nandakumar highlighted the inconveniences being faced by the people of Haoreibi due to suspension of the road development work and laying of earth in uneven manner.
For development of the 5 kms long road connecting Lilong to Samurou Bazar, work order was issued in January, 2005 under Carsh programme.
WBM work has been completed from Lilong to Karam for a distance of 2 kms.
Out of Rs 17,87,080 sanctioned for development of the road from Karam to Samurou, Rs 14,90,521 have been withdrawn without completing the work, Nandakumar decried.
The road development work has been suspended.
The completed portion also lacks quality, he observed.
The repairing work from Karam to Haoreibi Maning Leikai was done for name's sake while the remaining portion from Haoreibi Maning Leikai to Samurou has been totally left out.
Urging the authority concerned to complete the road development work at the earliest, the local people said that various sorts of agitation would be launched if their grievance is not addressed urgently.
