Imphal, August 10 2009:
A team of MPP leaders today visited the family members of Thokchom Ongbi Rabina, who was killed in the July 23 fake encounter incident at Khwairamband Bazar, to share in their bereavement and to find out what the people would like the party to do for ensuring justice.
The MPP team led by its president Dr Nimaichand Luwang met the bereaved family members of Rabina at their Lamshang Bazar residence and assured that MPP is there to take up the issues of the State and ensured justice to the victimized people.
At the outset, Dr Nimaichand clarified that the visit of the party leaders and office bearers is not to gain political mileage but to share in the bereavement and discuss with the people on how to stop the killings taking place in the State.
Stating that MPP strongly condemns the killing of an innocent woman like Rabina in a fake encounter, any acts of terrorism for monetary demand and targeting of non-local migrant workers, Dr Nimaichand said it is unfortunate on the part of the Government, which is responsible for law and order, to kill civilians in the name of encounter insurgency.
Urging the people to suggest what action they would like MPP to take up, Dr Nimaichand also handed over Rs 2000 to the bereaved family members as aid from the side of the party.
Father in-law of Rabina, Damu observed that killing of innocent people by security personnel who are supposed to protect the people is not acceptable.
Husband of Rabina, Chinglensana, said he would like necessary actions be taken up to give out strong message that such killings cannot be repeated.
Members of the JAC formed in connection with the killing of Rabina reiterated their demand for resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and punishment of the guilty police commandos and made it clear that they would continue to launch various intense agitations until these demands are met.
The MPP team also visited Kesorani, Ibemnungshi, Golmei Mangal and Kh Loken who sustained injuries in the July 23 incident and are undergoing treated at RIMS Hospital and handed over Rs 1000 each as aid towards their treatment.
