Imphal, November 01 2009:
Pointing out that neither O Ibobi Singh had resigned as Chief Minister of manipur nor have any concrete actions been taken against the top police officials as demanded by various organisations in connection with the July 23 BT road firing, the JACs of Ch Sanjit and Th Rabina questioned wisdom of entering into talks with the SPF Government.
In a joint statement issued today by the co-convenors, the JACs reminded that the ongoing public movement is in pursuit of the demands related to resignation of the CM on moral ground and suspension of top brass of the police administration.
However, instead of honouring the people's demand only cosmetic changes have been effected under the impression that shuffling of SPs will pass off as action taken by the Govt.decrying ceaseless execution of innocent civilians by security forces inspite of the State masses persisting with the demand for punitive action against personnel of police commandos involved in the BT Road firing for more than three months, the co-convenors opined that the Government is deliberately delaying action unlike other parts of the country where actions against the guilty are prompt and swift.
For instance, slaying of an MBA student namely Ranbir in Dehradun on July 3 had led to detention of guilty police personnel in CBI custody in addition to SSP of the district placed under suspension within a short notice of the victim found to be killed in a fake encounter, the joint statement said.
However, in Manipur the guilty ones are being let off and instead the people continue to suffer threat from the security force personnel for either joining the people's movement or spearheading the cause, it added while expressing that Manipur Human Rights Commission should be allowed to investigate the July 23 firing as the incident concerns violation of basic human rights.
