Imphal, August 20 2014:
Anti-AFSPA crusader Irom Sharmila was released from jail this evening and as usual she continued her fast uninterrupted.
Sharmila who arrested on the charge of attempting to commit suicide was released from JNIMS security ward which serves as a sub-jail at around 5.47 pm in accordance to an order issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East.
Notably, the Court of Sessions Judge, Imphal East dismissed the charge of attempting to commit suicide levelled against Sharmila and ordered for her release yesterday.
For the last time, Sharmila was arrested on March 14 this year under Section 309 IPC after she was released on March 13 .
After her release from the security ward, Sharmila went straight to Porompat Ayangpalli together with many women activists and members of different civil society organisations where she continued her fast.

Speaking to media persons there, Sharmila stated that she would continue with her protest agitation.
She also made it clear that she would not accept any offer for medical treatment.
She asserted that AFSPA would be revoked for sure if all the people join the anti-AFSPA campaign.
"Earlier I was released because my terms of detention expired but this time I was released because the Court could not find any evidence in support of the charge of attempting to commit suicide.
I feel happy about the Court verdict", Sharmila said.
She claimed that the Court verdict was a result of her 14 years old non-violent campaign.
She appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to uphold the principle of non-violence.
"I am not a victim of AFSPA 1958 but my campaign is fuelled and driven by my deep concern for the future generations," said Sharmila who has been already honoured with the Gwangju Peace Award.
