Two more shot dead at Yourbung

Imphal, October 22: Even as the issue surrounding the killing of four youths from Yourbung area under Lamlai police station at two different places has not been settled properly, two more youths of the same locality were shot dead by unidentified killers last night.

The youths shot dead on the bank of Iyam canal near Yendangkon hills, about 6 kms North West of Lamlai police station have been identified as Ningthoujam Mangalsana (26) s/o Manihar and Yaikhom Angam (26) s/o Mani.

Both of them belonged to Yourbung Mamang Leikai.

According to family sources, both Mangalsana and Angam were professional artists/painters earning their livelihoods and supplementing their family income.

They left behind many unfinished paintings.

Of the five siblings born to his parents, Mangalsana was not only the youngest but also the only son.

Leaving home with Angam at about 3.30 pm yesterday, the two friends were seen at a bus waiting shed near Veterinary office located along the road leading to Yourbung Khunou, conveyed the local people who reportedly saw them adding that the duo was waiting for some people.

It is reported that Y Angam went left home at about 2.30 pm.

As Mangalsana failed to return home till 7.30 pm yesterday, one of his friends belonging to the same locality dialled his mobile phone number.

The phone call was responded after which Mangalsana and his aunt talked over the phone.

At that moment, Mangalsana reportedly told his aunt that he was at Yourbung Khunou.

Saying that he will be back soon, Mangalsana asked his aunt to tell his mother to have her dinner.

However, a few minutes later when the same number was dialled again, it was found that the phone had been switched off.

Looking for their trail this morning, it was learnt that Mangalsana and Angam had gone to escort two sisters from Chingkhei Longmang village to their homes.

When the parents and local people went to Chingkhei Longmang village at about 3.30 this morning searching for the missing duo, the girls told them that they (Mangalsana and Angam) turned back from Kharasom junction.

But some Kharasom people said that the duo were seen coming back after escorting the girls till Chingkhei village.

The bodies of the two were discovered by some people who went to tend their paddy fields at about 8 this morning.

Both of them were found blindfolded and bullet marks were observed on their foreheads.

Kharasom inhabitants said they heard three rounds of gun shots at about 9 pm yesterday.

A police team lead by OC of Lamlai PS who rushed to the site on receiving information of the killing, recovered a mobile phone handset (Sony Ericson) from the body of N Mangalsana.

When the handset was switched on, one miss call was found recorded.

When the OC rang to the number, one girl picked up the phone.

The girl turned out to be one of the sisters escorted by Mangalsana and Angam to their home last night.

The girl is identified as Wahengbam Anita alias Fifteen (24) s/o Pamheiba of Chingkhei Longmang village.

On her way back from Imphal by bus, she called Mangalsana and Angam through mobile phone asking them to escort till her home.

As she also asked her younger sister Mousmi to receive her.

Mousmi too came out.

In this connection, Anita was summoned at Lamlai PS to take her statement this afternoon.

Police have picked up the corpses and deposited them at RIMS morgue.

Meanwhile, the Yourbung Apunba Meira Paibi has strongly condemned the killing.

They demanded immediate clarification and explanation from all concerned involved in the killing.

Considering the grave situation in Yourbung area resulting from serial cold blooded murders in the last few days, the Meira Paibis have sought immediate attention of Meira Paibis and social organisations working in the State level.

On the other hand, after the body of Laishram Arun alias Surjit of Yourbung Mayai Leikai shot dead on October 17 at Keibung area under Singjamei PS was claimed by family members yesterday, the corpses of Yumnam Dilip alias Inao of Yourbung Mayai Leikai, Sandham Dhanajit and Huidrom Manaoton of Itham Nungoi shot dead on October 17 ay Keibi Kumuda near dam have also been taken by respective families after post mortem at RIMS today.
