8 players, WB coach penalized

Based on the reports of referee inspector and officials conducting matches and unsatisfied with the contention of the players against whom charges were framed for misconduct during matches at the ongoing LG Santosh Trophy 2002, eight players and a coach has been penalized by the Disciplinary Committee of the 58th National Football Championship.

As per report submitted by the match officials, the Disciplinary Committee summoned eight Tamil Nadu players for insulting the referees by using unparliamentary and abusive words in the October 30 quarter final match against Manipur, and finding their replies unsatisfactory, suspension and penalties have been levied against them.

Besides suspension of K Kulothungam (jersey number 10) for a period of twelve months Rs 10,000 has been imposed against the player for entering the field after the final whistle and trying to assault the referee despite being red carded earlier in the match.

F Jegan (Jr No 12), R Palmson Moses (12), P Pugazhendi (6) and C Premnath (18) have also been penalized (Rs 5000 each) and suspended for a period of six months while stern warnings have been issued to T Edwin Raj (3), VK Harish (17) and A Jester not to repeat their unsporting behaviour, failing which severe punitive actions will be initiated.

They are directed to deposit the penalties within 15 days to the All Manipur Football Association failing which the suspension period will be further extended by two months.

In the meeting of the disciplinary committee held today decisions were also taken to suspend West Bengal coach Sisir Ghosh and player Chandan Das (4) for a period of two months with effect from October 29 besides imposing fines of Rs 5000 each for the misconduct and use of abusive words to the referees after completion of the match against Kerala played on October 27.

The committee has also resolved to suspend Goa's Alvito D'Cunha (9) and Railways' Masood Ansari (12) for two match each.
