Imphal, May 29 2014:
M.Bijen, who once shone as a striker, has expressed that watching World Cup is not going to help if the players of the state failed to practice in the playground after watching games played by famed international players of different countries.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Bijen said that we should concentrate on learning new techniques and skills performed by talented players of various countries during the biggest festival of football and such kind of skills and talents can be quite useful particularly to the youngsters of the state.
Moreover, we may gain more or less benefits if we apply it to ourselves.
Bijen further said that everyone knows that World Cup is held after every four years in different continents of the world.
But instead of picking up the playing skills and understanding the meaning of World Cup, most younger players in Manipur are only trying to copy the hair styles and costumes of international players.
Bijen, who took main role in winning the 58th Santosh Trophy held in the year 2002 in Manipur said, the interest in the game of football seems to be declining Manipur since last few years.
It is time for us to wake up and takes precaution.
One has to put in full efforts to become a popular footballer.
Nowadays, even a single player from Manipur could not be included in formation of India team.
During our days, formation of team cannot be completed without 4 or 5 players from Manipur, he pointed out.
Bijen also urged to the government of Manipur to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the World Cup for the people of Manipur.
As a fan of Lionel Messi of Argentina, Bijen believes that Germany would clinch the title of the World Cup.
