HU and Meiraa win at Dr Kanti hockey

HU, Lairikyengbam Leikai and Meiraa, Bashikhong defeated their respective opponents by two goal margins as the five-team preliminary round stage of the 14th Dr Kanti Mukherjee Memorial invitation hockey tournament remain wide open.
HU's 5-3 defeat of YCC-IC, Ahallup in the first match today at Khuman Lampak hockey stadium fetched the winning team four points from three matches with Meiraa also bagging same number of points from similar outings after a 5-3 victory over Cosmo, Wangkhei in the day's other match.
Inspite of the losses, YCCIC still has a chance for advancing to quarter final league round as it still has two match in hand while a win in the last preliminary round match tomorrow will also ensure last eight berth for the Wangkhei side by virtue of its two wins earlier in the competition.
SSA, Charangpat, the fifth team in the preliminary round has already culled seven points and will decide YCCIC's fate in their second match tomorrow.
The other match tomorrow will be between Cosmo and HU at 12.30 pm.
The top three teams of preliminary round would take on four new entrants, including defending champion MPSC and three outstation teams, for a place in the semifinals.
The HU goals in today's match against YCCIC were scored by Ch Bijen (6th, 15th), N Jilele (13th, 59th/PS) and L Mantosh (29th) with L Uttam (14th, 24th) and Sunil (28th) striking for the losing side.
In Meiraa's triumph over Cosmo, Th Kirankumar (1st, 68th), N Jinjin (16th, 32nd) and Th Tompok (19th) sounded the rival board with the opponent side's Kh Debeshwor (15th, 30th) and L Herojit (39th) bridging the score deficit.
