P Adeva's brace propelled MPSC to a come-from-behind 4-2 win over Cosmo, Wangkhei in the opening match of the 9th Dr Kanti Mukherjee Hockey Tournament at Khuman Lampak Hockey stadium today.
Cosmo drew first blood when RK Bikramjit found the mark in the 16th minute but failed to sustained the momentum allowing the police side to go on the offensive and draw level with Adeva's first in the 29th minute.
After M Mirpalat put MPSC ahead with a 40th minute goal, Adeva increased the lead to 3-1 four minutes later while N Sanjoy's 57th minute strike guaranteed the victory despite RK Dhanajit sounding the police board in the 59th minute.
outcome of the match could have been different had Th Hemjit beat Th Rajen under the MPSC goal from the penalty spot seconds from the final hooter.
The opening ceremony of the tournament being organised Manipur Hockey Association was held with Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh, Commissioner (Revenue) P Sharatchandra Singh and Chief Engineer/PWD (retd) N Ibotombi Singh as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
