Sending a strong signal of abundant talent awaiting exposure in the North East corner of the country Sainik School, Imphal composed of players from the region literally toyed and exposed chinks in the north zone armoury for a comprehensive 15-2 rout of Sainik School, Sujanpur Tira in the opening match of the All India Inter-Zonal Sainik Schools Football (Junior) Championship at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Imphal today.
Equally impressive was the south zone's Korukonda Sainik School who romped home 8-0 winners over Sainik School, Rewa of Madhya Pradesh in the other match of the day.
The Imphal edition of the championship is being competed by four zonal champions.
The Sainik School, Imphal goal riot started as early as the second minute with the first of Ngawang Tsering's seven in the match.
While the Imphal institute as a unit exposed yawning gap in standard of play between the two zonal champs, Tsering exhibited clinical finishing touch to ruffle the Sujanpur Tira net in the 10th, 18th, 44th, 55th, 59th and 64th minutes.
There was little respite for the Himachal Pradesh institute as A Binesh pumped three goals past the opponent custodian scoring in the 12th, 14th and 40th minutes to extend the advantage.
Radhe Payang joined the goal feast slamming in two in the 24th and 62nd minutes as KC Lalhriatpuia, Kesto Loriak and Sunny Drukla completed the demolition with one each in the 32nd, 77th and 79th minutes respectively.
For the Sujanpur Tira school the consolation goals camp through captain Pravesh Thakur's brace including a penalty conversion in the 80th minute.
In the other lopsided contest of the day, M Kapun and M Rakesh scored three goals apiece for Korukonda's 6-0 debacle of the Rewa institute.
Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by DIG AR Brig DSC Varma as the chief guest.
The four Sainik schools competing in the championship as zonal winners also displayed their institutional discipline during the march past.
