Manipur Police Sports Club (MPSC) regained the title of the dr kanti Mukherjee Memorial Invitation Hockey Tournament after defeating Cosmo, Wangkhei 6-3 in the final of the competition�s eleventh edition at Khuman Lampak Hockey stadium today.
Having won the coveted title in the ninth edition (2006-07), the police team quickly established 2-0 lead when P Priyokumar (7th) and Th Birjit (10th) sounded the Cosmo board before RK Bikramjit closed the score gap with a 19th minute goal in today�s final.
However, the tournament�s most prolific striker P Adeva reestablished the police advantage firing in three goals past the Wangkhei custodian.
Adeva, who eventually won the top scorer award carrying Rs 1000, converted a 26th minute penalty stroke, scored from a penalty corner five minutes later and then struck his sixth of the tournament in the 40th.S Tarunkumar chipped in to the police score with a 58th minute goal.
For the losers, L Herojit reduced the score deficit with a brace late in the match (68th/69th).While it was Cosmo�s maiden entry to the final, MPSC who also reached the summit round in the fifth and 10th editions of the tournament bagged the Rs 20,000 top prize.
Cosmo settled for the Rs 10,000 runners-up booty while third placed PHAM (Yaiskul) were presented Rs 5000. PHAM�s Kh Kothajit was declared the tournament�s best player with the best goal-keeper award going to M Rinash of the MPSC.
