N Biren hails State athletes

Acknowledging that a number of sportspersons from Manipur are playing for other States and institutions in the 34th National Games currently underway at Jharkhand, Sports Minister N Biren said State natives representing other States is itself an achievement and reasserts Manipur's status as powerhouse of sports in the country.
Speaking to newspersons during an inspection trip to the Regional Water Sports Complex at Takmu, the Minister also affirmed that the Complex would be dedicated to the State sportspersons within December this.
The Water Sports Complex is being constructed since 2007-08 financial year under the Special Plan Assistance allocation of Rs 18 crores.

While commenting that the 3 kilometre long and 100 metre wide water sports infrastructure (canal) on completion will the first of its kind in the entire North East region and will be world class, Biren also informed that construction of boys and girls hostels at the Complex have been completed and reiterated that there would be no leniency in ensuring completion of the entire complex.
The Minister also attended the final match of the Loktak Trophy football tournament at Moirang Multi-purpose Higher Secondary School ground as the chief guest.
AIM, Khabam claimed the Trophy with a 2-1 defeat of NEROCA, Shangakpham.
