Edibles worth ' 27,000 destroyed

Imphal, May 07 2011:
In a drive against selling edibles without proper packaging, volunteers of Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FRIENDS) seized edibles worth around ' 27,000 and burned them in a public place today.
According to FRIENDS general secretary in-charge E Shyamsunder, the edibles packaged without labels of the date of manufacture and expiry date were collected from various areas in Imphal east and west during a drive conducted by its volunteers since May 5 .
The seized items were set afire at a public ground at Heirangoithong area, he said.
