Imphal, November 24:
Consequent upon extensive bamboo flowering in Tamenglong and Churachandpur districts, crop harvest this year in the two districts is less than 20 percent of their normal annual harvest, informed ATSUM in a press release.
Alleging that no substantial actions have been executed on the ground even as huge amounts of money have been sanctioned and withdrawn, ATSUM blamed FCS and Forest Department for the impending famine.
Urging the Government to review its relief and precautionary programmes and to send emergency teams for spot enquiry of the famine hit villages, ATSUM assured that it will extend all possible assistance to reach interior villages of Tamenglong and Churachandpur districts.
The ATSUM also appealed to Imphal-based NGOs, and national and international NGOs to plan and prepare programme and projects to fight the impending famine.
