Imphal, Jun 20: Khengjoi TD Block Demand Committee has called a 24-hr total Chandel district bandh and an indefinite bandh along the ImphalMoreh route of National Highway 39 with effect from midnight of June 25 in protest against the alleged adamant attitude of the SPF Govt towards the demand for upgradation of Khengjoi SDC circle to a fullfledged Tribal Development Block.

Announcing this in a statement today, secy of the Demand Committee Thangjamang Haokip asserted that the Committee has been compelled to call the twin bandh as the Govt has for long neglected the genuine demand to upgrade the SDC circle to a TD block in the interest of development of the area.

The Demand Committee appealed to the transporters and the general public of Chandel district in particular to extend their cooperation during the bandh.

Electricity, medical services & religious programmes would be, however, exempted from the purview of the bandh called, the statement added.
