A public meeting held at Moirang bazar today resolved that plebiscite is the only democratic way to settle the insurgency problem in Manipur.
The meeting jointly organised by Apunba Nupi Lup Bishnupur District, Youth Development Organisation Moirang, Thanga Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup and Moirang Khunou Gram Sabha Ima meira Paibi Apunba Lup was addressed by The Freedom daily editor RK Ranendrajit, ISTV�s associate editor Rupachandra Yumnam and UPF president Y Devdutta as resource persons.
In his speech as the chief guest, former vice-principal of CI college Salam Tomba stressed that aspiration for self-determination and not success or failure of the plebiscite is important to the people of Manipur.
He also said that the root cause of insurgency in Manipur is the forcible annexation of the princely State by the Indian union.
Rupachandra in his address stated that plebiscite is a part of democracy accepted by international law.
He further emphasised that it demands concerted effort from the whole populace of the state to bring about a successful revolution.
It is imperative for all those dedicated for the welfare of the nation to discuss and analyse what the people wish for, added Rupachandra.
