Kuki Inpi Manipur has appealed to the Union Minister of State for Home Prakash Jaiswal to settle the Kuki problems first before signing any agreement with the NSCN (IM).
In a memorandum , Kuki Inpi vice president Holkholet Khongsai rued that former Prime Ministers Narashimha Rao, Deve Gowda, IK Gujral and Vajpayee failed to solve the problems of the Kukis despite (repeated appeals from the Kukis.
Highlighting on the problems of the Kukis, Holkholet said that the 360 Kuki villages which were uprooted during the ethnic clashes in early part of the nineties are yet to be compensated or resettled at their respective villages as most of the villages are still being illegally occupied by outsiders.
He also added that 900 innocent Kukis were mercilessly killed during the ethnic clashes.
Lamenting at the indifferent attitude of the Indian Govt towards the problems of the Kukis, he urged the Central Minister to take up steps for rehabilitating the displaced Kuki villagers to their original villages and also for compensating the loss of human lives and properties during the ethnic clash within a short period.
