Imphal, July 15:
BJP Legislature Wing leader RK Dorendra has strongly opposed the Govt's move to hold a judicial inquiry to probe into the circumstance leading to the brutal killing of Manorama saying that it is just an ploy to pacify and suppress the public outcry.
"We have experienced scores of commission of inquiry conducted by the State Govt but none of the involved personnel have been punished till date" Dorendra told The Sangai Express.
If the Govt had really felt the pulse of the public it could have registered an FIR case against the Assam Rifles personnel and could have begun an investigation into the case, said Dorendra.
It is well known fact that Manorama was killed after being arrested by the AR personnel, Dorendra said while lamenting that State police have still declined to arrest and investigate the personnel involved at this very crucial juncture.
The Ex Chief Minister also flayed Ibobi led SPF Govt for clamping indefinite curfew in the Greater Imphal areas by virtue of the protest staged by some womenfolk at the Assam Rifles gate.
The action of the women folk today is a clear indication of the failure of the State administrative system, said Dorendra adding that clamping of curfew in the Greater Imphal areas will have negative result as it will only encourage the protesters to let out their anger in one way or the other.
Dorendra also disclosed that the State BJP unit would also be submitting a memorandum regarding the matter to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Defence Minister at the earliest.
Meanwhile senior advocate, A Nilamani Singh also reiterated that it was meaningless and useless to conduct a judicial inquiry into the killings as most of the earlier inquiry instituted have not yielded any positive results till date.
CM meets top cops to take stock of situation: Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today convened an emergency meeting of the police top brass to take stock of the law and order situation and to discuss the matter related to the demonstration staged by womenfolk in the nude in front of the 17 Assam Rifles gate today.
CS AP Sharma, DGP AK Parashar and other police officers were present.
The meeting also discussed the security measures to be taken up in connection with the mass protest rally being organized tomorrow.
Meanwhile Lok Sabha MP Dr Th Meinya has written a strongly worded letter to the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil highlighting the killing of Manorama.
The MP said that the paramilitary forces instead of helping the police regularly take the law into their own hands to terrorize the people.
This is State terrorism.
