Protest demonstrations continued to be staged in different places in denouncement of the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident in which two persons including a pregnant woman were killed and five other injured in police firing.
At Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai Community Hall, Singjamei Parking and Bheigyabati Leikai, people of the areas participated in the protest demonstrations demanding punishment of the police commandos involved in the killing and resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on moral ground.
A large number of womenfolk participated in the protest demonstration.
'Placards inscribed with slogans like 'Punish guilty police commandos', 'Stop State terrorism', 'Resign CM Ibobi', 'Remove AFSPA', etc were seen being used at these protest sites.
At Khurai lamlong effigies of the Chief Minister and his MLA wife Landhoni were set on fire by protestors while about 10 women apparently heading for the Raj Bhavan from Keishampat side were halted by a police team from proceeding any farther.
Report has also been received of a Bishnupur district police team bursting a tear-gas shell at a roadside hotel located in Phubala Makha Leikai.
There is no report of injury.
Condemning the police action, Phubala apunba Meira Paibi Lup said apart from some peasants having tea on their way back home from the field/lake there was no gathering of protestors.
Meanwhile, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup which is spearheading the ongoing public protest over the Khwairamband Bazar incident has appealed to the people to prepare themselves for intensified stir.
As the next course of agitation, the Apunba Lup has announced civil disobedience movement against the Government and boycott of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and his family members and other MLAs and Minister who are partners of the SFP Govt.
