Concerning the controversial death of Nongthombam ningol Nameirakparh ongbi Ranjita of Thoubal Wangma Taba Kiyam Siphai Amureijam Leikai on June 22 and the subsequent investigation reports being prepared by police, the JAC concerned has urged upon the Chief Minister to deliver justice at the earliest.
During a meeting with the Chief Minister today at his official residence, members of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Nameirakpam ongbi Nongthombam ningol Ranjita insisted that all the accused persons pulled up police should not be given bail until and unless they are proved not guilty or otherwise, they must be sentenced to life imprisonment in case they are convicted and all measures should be initiated not to sideline police reports by any means.
In response, the Chief Minister assured that top police officials will be given stringent instruction to submit police investigation reports as soon as possible.
All the accused persons will be awarded punishment according to law, if convicted, stated the Chief Minister.
Earlier today, a large number of JAC members were blocked by police on their way to the Chief minister's official residence.
As the incensed people tried to breach past the police barricade, a tussle erupted between the police personnel and the crowd.
After the arrival of high ranking police officials, the enrdged crowd were pacified after which 12 representatives of the JAC were allowed to call on the Chief Minister.
Yet, a JAC representative conveyed that various forms of intense agitation will be launched in case the Chief Minister fails to fulfil his assurances.
In connection with the suspicious death of pregnant Ranjita, her husband N Devan has already been lodged in jail while four other accused including mother-in-law of the deceased, Leirikmacha have been remanded to police custody for three days after they were produced before CJM Thoubal yesterday.
