Imphal, March 17 2011:
Strongly condemning detention of M Landhoni by the National Investigative Agency (NIA), Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (Amkil) has demanded release of the woman without any condition.
speaking to news-persons at Manipur press Club today, Amkil president Ph Shakhi asserted that womenfolk of Manipur cannot endorse NIA's conduct as Landhoni was arrested with trumped-up charges when she paid a visit to her husband in a Guwahati jail.
Landhoni's husband namely M Jiten alias Khamba is a UNLF functionary and currently imprisoned at a Guwahati jail along with the outfit's chief RK Meghen.
While arrest and trial of Jiten is justifiable as he was a member of an outlawed organisation, detaining Landhoni for being a UG's wife is not only ridiculous but beyond the law, Shakhi stated.
Contending that the NIA taking custody of Landhoni after she was released on bail by a Guwahati court and the agency rejecting her bail plea is violation of human rights, Shakhi also conveyed moral support to the hunger strike agitation undertaken by Landhoni against the NIA conduct.
Further demanding that the State and Central Government act in a positive manner to release Landhoni without any condition, she also cautioned that failure to release Landhoni at the earliest would compel Amkil to launch intense agitation.
