Ukhrul rally protests rape and murder of school girl

Ukhrul, September 14 2011:
Thousands of people turned up to take part in a mass rally held here today to denounce the rape and murder of a school going girl by her alleged boyfriend on September 10 at Thangmeiband Cheiraoching, Imphal.
The mass rally was organised under the aegis of Tangkhul frontal organisations and was participated by students from all the schools in the district headquarters.
With participants carrying placards and banners which read 'Book the culprit and bring to immediate justice', 'Stop ill treating women', 'Stop rape, murder' 'Women are not animals', 'We want to live in peace', etc, the rally was flagged off simultaneously from two points namely Dungrei junction and Kharasom junction and later on converged at the Tangkhul Naga Long ground for a public meeting.
At the end of the meeting, various resolutions were adopted and a declaration was signed.
It was resolved that a committee with representative from every apex organisations of the district be constituted to take up the case and mediate between the two families of the accused and the victim and the outcome would be tabled before the Tangkhul Shanao Long for further actions.
The declaration was signed by TNL VP, President TSL, President TMNL, President TKS and President TNWL .
Memorandum has also been submitted to the Governor through the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul in connection with the case.
