The 28th State Level Science Exhibition for School Children 2007-08 was opened today at Bengali High School, Imphal with Education Minister L Jayantakumar as chief guest and former Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University IS Khaidem as president of the inaugural function.
The science exhibition being held under the theme, "Science and Technology and Planet Earth" will continue for five days and is being participated by around 60 students from all the districts of Manipur.

The students participating in the State level science exhibition were selected from district level science exhibitions organised by respective ZEOs.
A large number of models designed by these students under six different sub-themes are also being exhibited.
The sub-themes of the exhibition are water management, agriculture and food, energy resources, disaster management, mathematical modelling and educational technology.
As part of the exhibition, a quiz and work experience camp is also being organised.
Fifteen students selected from the exhibition and five other students selected from the quiz and work experience camp will represent the State in the Eastern India Science Fair scheduled for January 15 to 19 next year at Birla Industrial Technological Museum, Kolkata.
Earlier before the exhibition was opened, a science seminar on water was organised by the Department of Education at the same venue.
The seminar presided by IS Khaidem was also attended by Head of Chemistry Department DM College of Science G Tomba, retired Head of Botany Department DM College of Science Dr H Nandiram and director of CCD unit Manipur RK Dilip as resource persons.
G Tomba elucidated on the properties of water and its importance.
Dr H Nandiram traced the history of biological evolution.
Observing that Manipur receives abundant rainfall, he asserted that the State can avoid water scarcity problem during any season of the year provided rain water is managed properly.
Speaking on health and hygiene, RK Dilip stated that both surface water and ground can be made safe for drinking though proper processing like aeration, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection.
