In recognition of the sporting talent of the players in Manipur as well as to encourage them, India Govt is planning to set up a National Sports Academy (NSA) in the State, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh informed the Assembly during the discussion on Demands for Grant today.
The Demands for Grant in respect of Land Revenue, Stamps and Registration and District Administration, Environment and Forest, Youth Affairs and Sports Dept and Welfare of Minorities and OBCs have been passed by the Assembly after a thorough discussion today.
In his response to the discussion, Ibobi said there is no question of neglecting the Youth Affairs and Sports Dept.
India Govt is planning to set up a NSA in Manipur apart from the arrangement being made for construction of mini sports complexes at Chandel and Ukhrul district under DONER Ministry while at other districts with funding from Special Plan Assistance or North Eastern Council, he said.
He further pointed out that over and above presentation of awards to the outstanding players, cash incentive and Govt jobs are also being given them.
So far a total amount of Rs 167 crores have been given as cash incentive to 3377 players and land had been provided for construction of a residential building for them.
Jobs have also been provided to 42 meritorious sports persons and International boxing players Mary Kom and Sarita have been promoted to Police Inspector, he said.
There are many players who are claiming for appointment in Govt jobs, but owing to the financial condition of the State, they could not be satisfied, he added.
As to the discussion on the Demand for Grant of Stamps and Registration, Ibobi informed that House that the Govt is planning to increase the Stamp and Registration fee.
Efforts are also being made for direct recruitment of 44 SDCs and improve the district administration, he added
Forest and Environment Minister Th Debendra asserted that the Forest Department has been taking up the forestation programme smoothly.
Working plans have been taken up at Chandel and Ukhrul district and study is being carried for taking up the same at Churachandpur district.
Teak from Ukhrul can now be exported to other North Eastern States.
However, there is restriction in case of Senapati district since it comes under the working plan area, he explained.
