Imphal, June 10 2011:
Referring to the news report published on June 7 under the heading "Rail line runs into compensation bump", wherein Aching, Dinglin and R Chamei of Rangkhung village reportedly threatened to stop/halt ongoing railway construction work if compensatory payments are not released to them by June 12, Tamenglong District Collector K Panmei has clarified that there are three litigations/title suits over landownership which have been challenged with appeals in Court.
During pendency of final disposal of these suits, the District Collector has been constrained from speeding up of land acquisition proceedings at Rangkhung section with possible contempt of Court charge for any dereliction.
The district administration would expect the responsible Rangkhung village leaders to abide by the irrevocable/unconditional undertaking of consent that have reportedly executed on November 17, 2009 and September 8, 2010 allowing railway works to proceed without interruption at Rangkhung village section.
The District Collector further appealed the villagers to do the needful for final disposal of the pending suits/litigation and to withdraw the restriction being imposed on finalising the land acquisition process at Rangkhung section in public interest.
