Nasir assures welfare policies for minorities

Minorities and other backward classes in the state are lagging behind other communities.
So, in consultation with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and other concerned authorities, some welfare policies would be announced for the betterment of minority communities, Agriculture Minister Abdul Nasir has assured.
Inaugurating a 'one day national seminar on opportunities and challenges of Muslims in Manipur' organized by All Manipur Muslim (Meetei-Pangal) Welfare Association (AMMPWA) here at Hotel Classis as Chief Guest, the Minister observed that minority people especially Muslims in Manipur are still one of the most deprived communities in the State.
Highlighting the importance of better education system, the Minister contended that if Christian missionary educational institutes have not been established, the present educational status of the people of Manipur might be something else.
Guest of Honour of the function, Md Amin Shah, Parliamentary Secretary, MOBC & Sc and Science & Technology, said that if a particular community has to be developed, then each individual of the community need to develop first.
Muslim community in Manipur has enough scholars but one of the major problems is poverty.
If the people of the community want to develop themselves, then they have to utilize their talents properly and do away with traditional habit of making false remark about others, Amin added.
Amin also pointed out that polygamy and lack of family planning are the major causes for poverty among the people of Muslim community.
Prof.M A Janab Khan, President of AMMPWA; A Halim Chowdhury, Chairperson of Manipur State Minorities Commission; MD Aktar Hussain, Secretary of AMMPWA and Prof.N Mohendro, Former Member of Steering Committee of NER Vision, DoNER, Government of India were also present on the occasion.
In the first technical session of the seminar, six delegates namely Wahengbam Rorrkychand Singh, Dr Syed Ahmed, Dr Nurjahan Begum, Md Salatur Rahman, Abul Kheir Choudhry and Dr Mohd.
Shakil Ahmed presented their case studies and research papers on various issues related to Muslims in Manipur.
It was followed by panel discussion with Prof.N Mohendro as moderator.
