Stressing on the need to develop reputed educational institutions in order to curb outsourcing of State's resources, Education Minister M Okendro has declared that all possible measures would be initiated for early construction of the proposed Tribal University at Makhan in Senapati.
Speaking as the chief guest at the fourth foundation day celebration of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Regional Campus, Manipur at Adimjati complex today, Okendro pointed out that as studying outside Manipur entails additional expenditures and financial burden to the parents, there is need for developing quality educational institutions in the State.
Contending that problems faced by tribal students in getting admission at Manipur University had prompted the Government to establish the Tribal University to facilitate tribal students pursue higher education, the Minister reiterated that there would be no laxity in the construction of the Makhan institution.
As guest of honour of the celebration, Hill Areas Committee Chairman dr chaltonlien Amo noted that the University needs to be expanded with the setting up new departments as such a measure would facilitate the students pursue higher education in different streams.
He also described setting up of the Tribal University as a boon for the tribal student community.
IGNTU Vice Chancellor Prof CD Singh and Director Prof Vanlalngak also graced the occasion.
