Manipur Government is mulling to increase the number of Semi-Low Floor buses aimed at reducing the noise and air pollution and traffic volume in Imphal by replacing all the passenger vehicles, including three-wheeler and four-wheeler with such JNURM buses, reports NNN.
As part of the Government's new initiative, a meeting was held at the office chamber of Transport minister Kh Ratankumar in Manipur Old Secretariat here on February 2 wherein Delhi based Urban Mess Transport Company Ltd (UMTC) vice president Kishore Nathani, state Transport Department Director and other top officials of the department were present with Ratankumar in the chair, an official source in the Transport Department said on Tuesday.
The step is being taken up with an aim to trim down unnecessary traffic volume and noise and air pollution in the Imphal city, it says.
Manipur Government has already acquired 14 Semi-Low Floor buses out of 25 under the dealership of Manipur Golden Travels supplied under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission (JnURM).
On top of the remaining 11 buses, the state Government intends to induct more such buses in the state.
The actual number of buses that will be required in the city will be fixed on soon and the same will be intimated to the UMTC, the source says.
The left over 11 JNRUM buses will be got soon as the Ministry of Urban Development has given approval for it, it says.
Surprisingly, some JNURM buses that operated in the city have been stopped from covering of public transportation on the road due to some factor, according to sources.
