Joining the world over in observing 'World Disability Day' Churachandpur today witnessed a unique and hardly seen talents of the differently-able persons at Synod Hall.
Conversing on the public ground before the programme, more than eight differently-able persons rally along while heading for the day's observation venue.
A good number of wheel chairs, crutches and hearing aid were doled out as the observation began at Lamka public ground.
At Synod Hall, five differently-able persons including noted social workers amongst the community and meritorious scholars were awarded a citation each.
Besides the unique talents of the differently-able persons, the organizers Peoples Advance in Social Service (PASS) and National Trust, New Delhi highlighted the need for a concerted effort on empowering the differently-able persons.
SDO Churachandpur Ms Mannuamching, who was the chief guest of the day's observance quoted the Bible, 'So God created human beings in his own image.
In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them,' in an attempt to assure the differently-able persons to not dishearten their hearts.
'You do not resemble any other human but God,' the SDO reassured.
Every one of you should strive to present yourselves as a differently-able person and not sojourn barely as disable, she added.
She also pleaded the family, near and dear ones of the differently-able persons to be gentle and vigilant in upbringing them.
The occasion also marked a TV display on empowerment of the differently-able, registering them under Niramay Health Insurance Scheme and appointment of their legal guardianship.
Our Jiribam correspondent adds: The World Disability Day was observed in Jiri today at the Institute for Children with disabilities.
The event was jointly organised by 5 Assam Rifles and Achievement of Raising Maiden.
A free medical camp was also held at the occasion.
