Amid cessation of service by majority of the inter-state bus operators owing to extortion threat from the armed KLA/KLO organisation some passenger carriers resumed service from today.
The inter-State bus operators are protesting arson perpetrated by activists of the armed outfit on October 23 wherein two passengers were charred to death after the bus they were travelling in was torched at Lahorijan of Assam.
Following an understanding with the State authorities the passenger buses had started plying for about six days after briefly stopping service in condemnation of the said incident but resumption of service again came to a grinding halt since yesterday as the same armed outfit reportedly threatened transport operators in connection with monetary demands.
In view of the prevailing uncertainty on whether to resume or cease service, a meeting was held between representatives of All Manipur Inter State Bus Association and the DGP (Manipur) today, said a source and confided of the police chief assuring provision of enhanced security personnel to escort the buses.
The source also expressed confidence that the service might resume again from tomorrow onwards.
Project dedicated to villagers : The Atonglok Multi Purpose Pico Hydel Power Project jointly developed by Manireda and Energy Committee Sadar Hills at Sadar Joute Village has been dedicated to the public today.
The inaugural programme of the power project was held with former Minister Ngamthang Haokip as the chief host and Manireda Chairman PL Thanga as the chief guest while Secretary of Governor RK Nimai and former Minister Dr M Nara graced the occasion as the functional president and guest of honour respectively.
