Imphal, February 16:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has stated that the demand for bringing out a complementary booklet containing all the errors found in the text books published by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur for class I to V and make them available to the students free of cost has been made not to disrupt the academic session.
In a statement signed by its information and publicity secretary Khamba Laishram, AMSU said it would not keep quiet, if the authorities concerned tried to employ delaying tactics in bringing out the errata.
The authorities concerned also should ensure that the mistakes were not found in the second edition of these text books and the text books should be brought out well in time for commencement of the next academic session.
Blaming the SCERT for the current furor over the error-filled text books, AMSU reiterated that the matter has come to this stage as the SCERT had shied away from its responsibility and entrusted the BSEM with the task of printing and publishing the text books only at the eleventh hour.
There should not be any reason why SCERT Minister, Director in-charge of SCERT and official members of the text book committee should not be removed from their respective posts.
AMSU yesterday had demanded resignation of SCERT Minister Z Mangaibou, SCERT Director in-charge and other officials on moral ground within February 20 and warned that if their demands are not met they would launch a series of agitation.
However, the students' body asserted that these text books inspite of some of the errors found are definitely better than the ones published and prescribed by SCERT earlier in term of up-to-date information and regional contents.
Alleging that errata brought by SCERT for the text books of class VI and VIII are not being incorporated into the text books, AMSU said that it tantamount to deceiving the student community.
