State Governor, Gurbachan Jagat today expressed confidence that performances of Shumang Leela will certainly spread the massage for preservation and promotion of the age-old tradition of peaceful co-existence amongst various communities in the state.
The Governor was speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the 38th All Manipur Shumang Leela Festival, 2010 organised by Manipur State Kala Akademi at Th Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound here.
"Realizing that the need of the hour is hard work, sincerity and discipline on all fronts of our social life, we have to try our best to preserve and promote the age-old tradition of peaceful co-existence amongst various communities in Manipur, only then can we make Manipur a developed state," the Governor said expressing confident that the Shumang Leela groups will certainly convey this massage through their performances.
The governor also complemented the Manipur State Kala Akademi for their continuous efforts in organising festivals, exhibitions, seminars, workshops and instituting awards and scholarships for art and culture personalities over the years.
The festival will also help in preserving and promoting the Shumang Leela movement in the state.
Elaborately talking on the art forms, he also termed the performers and acts as a popular medium of traditional mass communication for mass education.
It also plays a significant role in creating awareness of important issues, such as social, political, financial, law and order among the people, besides entertainment and relaxation.
The inaugural function of the festival which will continue till August 11 was marked by distribution of awards to the best actors, best actress, best directors, etc.
