Imphal, May 30 2009:
Following approval given by the Green Bench of the Supreme Court to obtain Environmental Clearance with regard to the proposed border fencing for a length 10 kms in Manipur sector of Indo-Myanmar boundary, the State Advisory Group will be meeting in the first week of June.
After it approved the proposal for Environmental Clearance for the borderline extending from border pillar No 79 to border pillar No 81 which falls under Yangoupokpi Wildlife Sanctuary, the Green Bench of the Supreme Court entrusted the State Advisory Group to obtain Forest and Environmental Clearance.
The Supreme Court gave the approval acting on an application filed by Assam Rifles.
Subsequently, the State Government has directed the State Advisory Group to convene a meeting with June 6 .
Forest Dept has also made necessary initiatives to conduct the meeting of the State Advisory Group with the Regional Chief Conservator of Forest.
Notably, the Govt of Myanmar has been making vocal protest against the proposed border fencing which would be put up 12 feet inside Indian territory.
