The mortal remains of Maram village chief/queen Apei Hinga, who passed away yesterday following a protracted ailment, was laid to rest at Gong-dikijang amidst traditional rites and rituals.
Born on June 12, 1924 at Maram Khunou, Apei Hinga assumed the title of Maram Khullen chief after the death of her husband Karang in 1965 .
As a leader of the Maram people, Apei Hinga in her capacity as chief of Maram Khullen took proactive roles in promoting the unique culture and tradition of Maram tribe.
She was also at the forefront in leading the younger generations on the right path, patiently working to remove any anti-social tendency from the minds of youth.

In addition to Maram A/C MLA K Raina and UNC president Samson Remei, the funeral service of the late queen was also attended by representatives of the United Naga Council, Naga Women's Union, Manipur, Maram Union, Maram Women's Union, Naga People's Movement for Human Rights, Maram Students Union and ANSAM.
A large number of people from Maram area suspended their daily activities and came to Gongdikijang to attend the funeral service since early morning.
In his condolence speech, MLA K Raina said that the demise of Apei Hinga, who worked tirelessly for the progress of Maram community is an irreparable loss.
He called upon all to follow the footsteps of the late queen on the path of righteousness and justice so that there is peace and development in the society.
Many other speakers including UNC and ANSAM functionaries also recalled contributions of the late queen towards betterment of the society.
Paying befitting tributes to the late queen, the mortal remains were finally laid to rest.
Following the demise of Apei Hinga, her son Namba has assumed the title of Maram Khullen chief with effect from today.
