A three-member official team of Medical Council of India (MCI) today arrived at Imphal to inspect the progress of the works at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science which is planning to commence its first session in August this year.
According to an official source, the MCI team led by its Inspector Dr SP Aggarwal arrived at Imphal as the recognition of the medical council is required for the operation of the new medical institute which would have 100 seats.
The MCI team would be visiting the institute tomorrow to inspect the progress of the work.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Health Minister Ph Parijat informed that the construction work of the institute is almost complete.
Construction work of the ward that will have 100 beds and hostel have been completed and other remaining minor works are expected to be wrapped up by next month, the Minister said, while expressing confidence that granting of recognition to the institute by MCI would be not much of a problem.
On the other hand, another source disclosed that consequent to the letter of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development for providing the required land for construction of the proposed National Institute of Technology in Manipur, a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has been held.
During the meeting, PDA has been entrusted with the task of erecting fencing around the land measuring 300 acres that the State Govt had acquired for the purpose of constructing the NIT.
