Proper management of the solid waste in Manipur can be possible only when there is proper communication link between Manipur Pollution Control Board, Municipal Council and the State Government, retired Additional Director of Education (S) S Naran Singh has opined.
In his address as chief guest of the one-day awareness campaign on Municipal Solid Waste Management organised jointly by Eco-line Foundation, Luwangshangbam and Palace Compound Youth Welfare Club (PCYWC) under the sponsorship of Manipur Pollution Control Board at Sana Konung complex here today, Naran asserted that people of Manipur are facing lot of inconveniences due to communication gap among the Government Departments.
Titular King of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba and president of PCYWC Ajit Singh attended the function as president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Leishemba Sanajaoba observed pollution control and solid waste management can be achieved only when every people consider and take this up as their own responsibility.
Most people in Manipur do not have the concept of controlling the pollution.
Even if they aspire to lead a developed life, yet they do not know what people living in the developed countries are doing, he said.
Data Analyst of Environment and Ecology Wing Dr T Brajakumar Singh, SEE of Manipur Pollution Control Board N Minaketan and AEE (Chemist) of the Board Kh Premkanta spoke on the topics of solid waste management as resource persons.
On the other hand, People�s Economic Advancement Centre (PEACE), Saiton Awang Leikai organised a seminar on �Solid Waste Management� as part of the National Environment and Awareness Campaign, 2007-08 at Saiton today.
Secretary of United Volunteers Youth Council (UVYC) K Maharabi Singh and ex-volunteer of United Nations W Dilip Singh delivered lectures on various topics related to of solid waste management during the seminar.
In all 53 delegates including women participated in the seminar.
