Imphal, July 26:
All the PWD officials responsible for the sub-standard development work of the IT Road from Kangpokpi to Tamenglong are likely to be chargesheeted while a late report informed that one Executive Engineer I Ghanabir and one Section Officer Ch Hareshor of PWD Sadar Hills Division have been suspended for their failure to supervise the road development work from Kangpokpi to Tamei.
Moreover, it is reported that Rs 7.45 crores have been withdrawn against the same work.
Further, all the contractors concerned will be blacklisted.
This was stated by PWD Minister K Ranjit after an inspection tour of the Imphal-Tamenglong road and other roads in Tamenglong district on July 24 and 25.The PWD Minister was accompanied by MLAs of Tamei A/C and Mayang Imphal A/C besides high-ranking officials of the Works Department.
Although the road development work was complete with necessary black topping, K Ranjit was infuriated to see the manner of work executed without any concern for quality.
The development work of this section of IT Road from Kangpokpi to Tamei having a length of 70 Kms was taken up in March last year under Special Plan Assistance.
The estimated cost of the road development work was about Rs 10 crores.
The work was allotted to eight contractors.
Although black topping work has been completed in most parts of the road, the PWD engineers have totally failed to maintain any level of quality.
This was well manifested by the earth and mud that dotted the surface of the black topped road.
The bitumen layer was so flimsy that the WBM work was found exposed in many spots.
Enraged at seeing the sub-standard work, the Minister questioned the PWD officials who accompanied him if the liabilities of the work had been released or not.
While some officials said that the liabilities had been released, others replied in the negative.
The contradictory information provided by the PWD officials only make the Minister more incense.
Observing that there is no improvement in this section of the IT Road from Kangpokpi to Tamei, Ranjit conveyed that chargesheets will be framed against concerned PWD engineers in case all the liabilities of the work has been released.
Moreover, the contractors concerned will be blacklisted besides recuperating the amount they have withdrawn in the name of the work.
After passing through IT Road, Ranjit inspected the mini-Secretariat building being constructed at Tamenglong district hqs and others roads and bridges in the district.
K Ranjit briefing media persons at Tamenglong district Hqs noted that the ongoing construction work of the mini-Secretariat lacks pace.
Asserting that there would no paucity of fund, he instructed the concerned contractors to maintain proper quality of works and to complete all development works within stipulated periods.
He also asked the contractors to construct the approach road to the mini-Secretariat first on priority basis.
The PWD Minister further informed that development and construction works of the roads from Tamei to Tamenglong, Keiphundai to Tousem, bridge at Gelnel, another bridge over Irang river connecting Thanlon and Nungbi, a double bailey bridge over Leimatak river connecting Nungleiband and a bailey bridge over Barak river connecting Katang and Dikiuram will be taken within the current year.
Above these, construction of guest houses at Tamenglong district Hqs and Nungba sub-divisional hqs will also be taken within this year, he said.
The left out portions of the IT road from Kangpokpi to Tamei will be completed within 2007-08.He further assured that other works proposed by the people and public leaders of Tamenglong will be taken up next year after studying the rationality and urgency of the proposed works.
