In response to an earlier appeal made by Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), students started attending their classes wearing black badges from today.
On the first day today, students of Special Regular English School, Nambol Sabal Leikai; St John English High School; Nambol Laitonjam Khori Leikai and Bethem English High School, Nambol Phoijing wore black badges.

Thoithoi also appealed to students in other parts of the State to start wearing black badges while attending classes as a sign of solidarity to the public demand.
Coming out strongly against the activities of the NSCN (IM) which has observing ceasefire with the Government of India for more than a decade now, the student leader alleged the Government of India and the Government of Manipur has been giving free hand to the Naga rebel group inspite of the ceasefire agreement.
While trying to protect the Indian security forces, the public are being left to the mercy of the NSCN (IM) which has come to regard the ceasefire agreement as some sort of license, he further charged, adding that in the interest of protecting the life and the properties of its people the Govt of Manipur should make an effort towards effecting the review of the existing ceasefire agreement between the NSCN (IM) and the Govt of India.
The student leader also demanded that the Govt of India to hand over the killers from the custody of the Naga rebel group to the Govt of Manipur so as to take up necessary legal action.
It is also high time for all the people of Manipur to be well aware of the divide and rule policy being played by the Govt of India, the student leader added.
