With the main objective of providing assistance for the physical and psychological rehabilitation of the child victims of communal, caste, ethnic or terrorist violence, etc, National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH) has launched Project Assist sucessfully at different parts of the country.
Established in 1992, this autonomous organisation which works in close tandem with the Union Home Ministry launched Project Assist to promote communal harmony and national integration.
Addressing a press conference here today, NFCH secretary Jaswant Raj .
who is currently on a visit to the State to review the activities of the Foundation as well as to seek the co-operation and support of the State Government informed that since 2002, the Foundation has extended assistance to 9095 destitude childrens including 1458 in Manipur.
The Foundation has been carrying out its welfare activities with the fixed corpus fund of Rs 10 crores from the Union Home Ministry and donation from patrons, NGOs and NRI, he added.
Over and above the child victims of communal, caste, ethnic or terrorist violence, young students from families living below poverty line can also avail the benefit of Project Assist which is admissible up to the age of 18 years, he said, while explaining that in excepional cases, it can be extended upto the age of 21 years.
For general education, the scale of assistence is Rs 800 per month per child for those studying in class A and B cities while Rs 750 per month per child for those studying in other places.
While for the professional or vacarional education, the scale of assistance is Rs 150 per month per child in addition to assistance for the general education, Jawant said.
