Imphal, March 16:
Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul district Pankaj Kumar Pal has been accused of misappropriating Rs 2.10 crores sanctioned by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India for taking up water supply programmes under Swajaldhara in Ukhrul district.
A memorandum submitted to the Chief Secretary by the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) demanded punitive action against the DC for the alleged misuse of funds sanctioned for people's welfare.
The TKS alleged that the Swajaldhara project has proved a total flop in Ukhrul district on account of the DC's failure to monitor the project besides implementing the project in association with few individuals close to him so that they can swindle the sanctioned fund.
Moreover, an amount of Rs 80 lakhs sanctioned under Border Area Development Programme (BADP) 2006-07 was withdrawn in the name of the village headman in connivance with his (DC's) cohorts on January 4 this year.
Yet till date, the DC has not taken any initiative to implement the project under BADP 2006-07.Accusing DC Pankaj Kumar Pal of highhandedness and irregularity in attending office, TKS asserted that the DC is interested only in embezzling public money while wilfully neglecting development programmes and law and order of the district.
Urging the Chief Secretary to initiate appropriate actions against the DC within 10 days, the student body cautioned that it would take up its own course of actions if their appeal goes unheeded.
