Workshop on Industrial and Investment Policy held

Contrary to the theme of a workshop organised by All Manipur Entrepreneurs' Association at Classic Hotel today, Principal secretary (Commerce & Industries) O Nabakishore has categorically stated that absence of a viable Industrial and Investment Policy is the chief factor for the State lagging far behind others in the race towards industrial development.
speaking as chief guest of the workshop on 'Manipur industrial and Investment Policy 2011', the IAS officer highlighted that apart from small or cottage industries there is no other industry present in the State inspite of this sector a crucial element in determining progress and status of a State.
Nabakishore, however, expressed that there is still time for development of industries in the State as the ambitious Look East Policy is yet to materialise.
Noting that there are several enterprising individuals who seek financial and technical support of the State's Industries Department, he opined that such a trend indicates that Manipur has the potential for industrial development and as such there is need for subject experts to contribute their mite for the overall development of Manipur.
Strongly advocating on concrete follow-up measures with regard to implementation of the Industrial and Investment Policy, President of the workshop host S Rishikumar also emphasised on the need to create a conducive environment that would encourage investment from outside, include Land Policy as a component of Industrial Policy, develop industrial infrastructure, regular training programmes on skill development, create markets as well as promote the tourism sector.
During the technical session of the workshop conducted under the sponsorship of Department of Commerce and Industries, Prof Ch Priyoranjan Singh of Manipur University's Department of Economics, HOD of the above Department Prof E Bijoykumar Singh, Dr Ch Ibohal Meetei of MU's Director of Manipur Institute of Management Studies and Lecturer, DMC Commerce Dr L Sanatomba Meetei deliberated on the workshop theme as the resource persons.
