In continuation of the people's movement, launched in the aftermath of July 23 Khwairamband killings, meira (torch) rallies were taken out at different places in both Imphal West and Imphal East districts this evening.
A large number of women took out meira rallies in the adjoining areas of Khurai and Sawombung in Imphal East district.
Similar protest rallies were also seen in Irom Meijrao and Lamsang areas in Imphal West district.
The protesters carried posters displaying the photographs published by Tehelka in connection with the killing of Ch Sanjit.
The protesters shouted slogans such as "We condemn Khwairamband killing", "Stop the practice of opening fire in crowded places", "Punish commandos involved in killing innocent civilians", "Resign, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi", "Repeal AFSPA from Manipur", "Punish police officers condoning guilty commando personnel" etc.
Effigies burnt: In continuation of the public movement against the july 23 firing at BT Road, sit-in-protests demanding resignation of the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh were staged at various places today.
At the end of the protest sessions effigies of the Chief Minister, DGP Y Joykumar, AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram were set ablaze.
Local women activists staged protest at Kachikhul Mayai Leikai, Karong and Sangaithel.
