Chief Information Commissioner RK Angousana issued an order on June 11 asking the SPIO/Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East to compensate one Pangambam Jiteswari w/o P Anil of Khongman Zone V with a sum of Rs 4000 for the SPIO's failure to correct information sought by Jiteswari.
According to a press release issued by the Macha Leima RTI Apunba Nupi Lup, Jiteswari submitted an application to the SPIO/DC Imphal East under RTI Act on November 10 last year to seeking to know the list of beneficiaries, mode of selection and the amount sanctioned to Khongman Gram Panchayat under Indira Awas Yojna.
Instead of the SPIO, the Pradhan of the Gram Panchayat provided information which was false and misleading.
Jiteswari then filed a complaint case with the Manipur Information Commission on January 30 this year.
Subsequently, the SPIO provided information which was contradictory to the Pradhan.
Again on May 12, the CIC directed the SPIO to provide the required information and also to submit a show cause reply by May 30.But the SPIO failed to give a reasonable response.
Consequently, the CIC issued the order asking the SPIO to compensate Jiteswari with Rs 4000, added the release.
In another similar case, the Chief Information Officer issued another order directing the office of the Direction of Education (Schools) to pay Rs 11,000 as compensation to one Thounaojam Raseswar of Top Khongnangkhong, Imphal East for its failure to furnish the information sought within the stipulated period.
Raseswar, on July 7 last year, submitted an application under RTI Act to the SPIO, Secretariat, Education (S) Department seeking certain information relating to pay revision of his deceased wife K Tejbati who was regular Headmistress of Top Makha Primary School, conveyed a press release issued by the Human Rights Law Network.
As the SPIO failed to furnish the information sought, a complaint was lodged at the Manipur Information Commission.
Consequently, the CIC directed the SPIO to furnish the required information within seven days.
Again the SPIO failed to provide the necessary information.
Then Raseswar lodged another complaint seeking imposition of penalty on the SPIO.
Subsequently, the CIC after a series of hearing, issued an order today directing the SPIO to pay Rs 11,000 to Raseswar as compensation on or before July 31, added the HRLN release.
