A joint meeting of the leaders of various Opposition parties including NCP, MPP, CPI (M), MSCP and BJP was convened at the residence of NCP president Radhabinod Koijam from 9 am to 1 pm today discuss the issue and the prevailing situation in the State.
After a detailed discussion, the marathon meeting lasting 4 hours, unanimously demanded resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on moral ground so as to ensure free and fair conduct of the Judicial Inquiry into the incident as announced by the Government.
The meeting felt that the Chief Minister should not shy away from the responsibility of reading the prepared statement of the police on the incident in the Assembly and it was unreasonable to make scapegoat of six police commandos including an SI over the statement.
Besides arriving at a decision to join hands among the Opposition parties towards ensuring justice to all the fake encounter cases in the past as well, the meeting also pressed for handing over the case of BT Road incident to the CBI for thoroughly investigation before possible disappearances of the witnesses and evidences of the FIR case registered with the police.
