PREPAK trio among six UGs held

In all six underground activists, including three belonging to the proscribed PREPAK outfit, have been rounded up by security forces from different places in the past 48 hours.
A combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and troops of 9 Sector Assam Rifles apprehended three PREPAK activists from Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba Mapal on March 3 at around 10.30 am, informed a statement issued by SP (IW) .
The three, rounded up by the combined team under the supervision of Additional SP (Ops), Imphal West, have been identified as Waikhom Loveson alias Mihenngamba Singh (19) s/o (L) W Deva Singh of Naga Mapal Kangjabi Leirak, Huidrom Pambi alias Panthoi (19) s/o H Shyamjai Singh of Lalambung Khoirom Leikai and Yumnam Abung Singh (25) s/o Y Tomba Singh of Thangmeiband Thingel Leikai.
It is said that Loveson (Army No.2302) underwent military training in the 35th batch of the outfit and came back to Imphal from Burma on December 12, 2011 to cooperate with CorCom UGs under the command of SS Sgt Maj Dinesh Singh of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai.
According to the statement, the three at the command of Dinesh went to extort Rs 1 lakh from Phukan Bakery shop, Nagamapal and Rs 5 lakh from Lala Opticals, RIMS Road with the order of taking them hostage if the businessmen fail to comply to the monetary demand.
One 9 mm pistol with magazine and three live rounds, and one Kenwood radio set with battery have been listed as the items recovered from the possession of W Loveson while a Chinese hand-grenade from Pambi and 15 live rounds of M-16 from Y abung were also recovered by the security team.
Meanwhile, troops of 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector rounded up a cadre of NSCN (K) from New Keithelmanbi area where a search operation was launched on March 3.The arrested person namely Chamthankung Gangmei alias Acham (35) s/o (L) Marimthang Gangmei of Namching along with one 9 mm pistol, magazine and four live rounds seized from his possession, has been handed over to Patsoi police station, informed a PRO IGAR (S) release.
According to a PIB (DW) release issued today, one cadre each of the UNLF and PREPAK outfits were arrested by 22 Assam Rifles of Red Shield Division and Manipur police commandos from Jiribam sub-division areas.
The UNLF activist has been identified as SS Sgt L Jayenta (49) s/o L Brajeshwari Devi of Dibong Awang Leikai, Jiribam and the PREPAK activist as Irom Monal Singh alias Sanjiv (22) s/o I Mani Singh of Sorok Atingbi Khunou, also in Jiribam.
Both have been handed over to Jiribam police station, the release informed.
