Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF), Government of Manipur, Dr S Singsit was abducted by armed cadres of UKLF (MC) from his Keithelmanbi residence last night.
The officer, however, was released later.
According to Kangpokpi Police, after the burial service of his mother, Dr Singsit was resting at his home at around 9 pm yesterday when three armed cadres of UKLF (MC) came and abducted him and his brother-in-law Manga Singsit in a car.
At Yaikangpao village, which is located just before reaching Kangpokpi, some other armed cadres who were waiting there already took Dr Singsit away alone in their motor bikes while releasing Manga Singsit.
The police source further said that as the motor bikers were drunk, the motor cycle carrying Dr Singsit met with an accident along the road and Dr Singsit sustained injuries.
Injured Dr Singsit was taken to the Senapati PHC for treatment by the same armed UKLF (MC) cadres.
Staff and other individuals present at the PHC, somehow, came to know that Dr Singsit was being abducted by UKLF (MC) cadres and reported the matter to the town commander of NSCN (IM) who rescued Dr Sing-sit.
All the UKLF (MC) cadres who brought Dr Singsit to the PHC have been reportedly taken into custody by NSCN (IM) .
After being rescued, NSCN (IM) cadres handed Dr Singsit to the chief of T Khullen who in turn handed him over to Kangpokpi Police.
Later on, Dr Singsit was handed over to a high level police official team comprising of ADG (L& O) V Zathang and IG (L&O) who took the responsibility of bringing Dr Singsit to Imphal safely this afternoon.
