New Delhi, May 31 2014 :
After a lull for more than two months, due to the election code of con-duct, the committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in the post Nido Tania case met today in New Delhi to renew the task which was halted mid-way.
The panel was constituted on February 5, this year to look into various issues faced by the North East people residing in metro cities in the aftermath of the uproar over alleged murder of Nido Tania, a student from Arunachal Pradesh in January.
The committee comprised of retired IAS and working officials in the MHA along with few NE representatives.
The ten-member committee which was required to submit a report within two months to the Union Home Ministry could not be completed as the members were directed to halt their activities since the Election Commission of India announced the election code of conduct on March 5 which remained in force till May 16, the day election results were declared.
While the interaction with various NE communities and professionals were comple-ted, the proposed visit to various metro cities across the countries could not take place.
With the new Govt formation completed, the committee is once again back to square one and are picking up the pieces once again.
They will be seeking appointments with various concern Ministries and departments in the coming week and will be charting out their course of action.
