Having issued the election notification by the State Election Commission on August 6, preparation for the smooth conduct of the election to elect members of Gram Panchayat, Zilla Parishad and Pradhans in 13 sub-divisions of four valley districts namely Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur has already started.
In accordance to the election notification, the last date of filing the nomination papers by the aspiring candidates is August 16 and scrutiny would be done on August 16.The last date of withdrawal of nomination papers is August 20 and the election would be held on September 19.In case of re-poll, it would be held on September 21 and counting of the votes on September 23.All the election related process is to be completed within September 25.Information received from State Election Commission said the election is to be held to elect 165 Pradhans and 1543 Gram Panchayat members in 13 sub-divisions of the four valley districts and one Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha in each of the four districts.
There would be in all 61 Constituencies for the Zilla Parishad election and a total of 1545 polling stations would be set up.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would not be utilised in the election, instead ballot papers would be used.
Each of the eligible voter would be entitled to cast three votes to elect a Gram Panchayat member, a Pradhan and a Parishad member.
The colour of the ballot paper for electing the Gram Panchayat member would be white, yellow for Pradhan and pink colour for Zilla Parishad member.
Although aspiring candidates have started submitting nomination papers to the SDOs concerned who are also the ROs of the election, how many nomination papers have been filed till date could not be confirmed nor the exact figure of the voters and the seats reserved for women ascertained from the State Election Commission although Electoral Rolls had been published.
