The three-day long Peace Treaty Reaffirmation Celebration organized by Pudunamei Union at Pudunamei (Pfosemai) village in commemoration of the peace treaty signed with other villages concluded today.
Pudunamei village is located some 8 kms towards east of Mao Gate along the National Highway 39.The-peace treaty reaffirmation celebration was held for the first time after the village entered into various peace treaties with 34 other villages, with which it had strained relation.
The peace treaties were signed during the period from 1800 to 2001.The main function and programme of the celebration was held yesterday with Deputy Secretary of Finance Department, Government of Nagaland Sani Pusa taking the chair.
Horticulture & Soil-Conservation Minister RK Theko was the guest of honour while former Deputy Speaker of State Assembly K Raina, Senapati DC Athui Pamei and president of Kipgen Phungpi, Thangkhup Kipgen were presidium members of the function.
In the morning session of the programme, Pudunamei village chief P Kaikho along with his counterpart of Phiisachodiima village in Nagaland jointly unveiled a monolith structure with the names of all the 38 villages which have signed the truce sculpted on it.
Khikho also presented spears and other gifts to the village chiefs on the occasion.
Speaking at the function, RK Theko emphasized on the need to maintain peace and harmony for development and prosperity.
He said that the signing of peace treaty among the villages leaving behind the past enmity was a good sign.
War creates problems but peace paves the way for development, he said, and appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony always.
The Minister also released the �Pfosemai Peace Treaty Reaffirmation List 1800-2001�, at the function.
Dr Kaisii Kopfujii, who is the first physician of the village, while giving the welcome address stated that the main motive of the celebration is to strengthen the ties of fraternity among the villagers.
He also maintained that peace is important for accelerating the pace of development.
